PLEASANT HARBOR YACHT CLUB
DOCK BEAUTIFICATION DAY!!

Coordinator(s): Greg Tyler gttyler@comcast.net (503) 930-6472

(NEW) Location(s): Marina grounds, and Marina guesthouse (formerly the Kaufman home south of the pool).

Date and time: Saturday May 24, 2008. No host social hour in the marina guesthouse at 4, potluck from 5 - 7 pm.

Special information for this event: Please bring a colorful planter of flowers, veggies, or herbs for your dockbox this summer and/or some cool flags and banners! This is a wonderful place, and let’s make it sparkle! This is not a contest, but simply a day to add color for the summer season. We suggest that your planter contain soil that has good water retention capability or a reservoir to sustain it. The potluck has been moved from the pool shelter up to the marina guesthouse. Since we will need to cleanup and secure the house for the night after we eat, the potluck will end at 7 pm sharp. The house kitchen is fully functional with burners, ovens, refrigerator and outlets that we can use.

Social event: Guests are always welcome at the social events. We encourage ‘green’ potlucks by bringing your own utensils and plates to minimize waste.

PLEASE RSVP to Greg Tyler by Monday, May 19th if you plan to attend. This is necessary to help us with planning and logistics.

2008 Snowflake Cruise

2008 SNOWFLAKE CRUISE TO ALDERBROOK

With the winter weather this year, it looked like the Snowflake Cruise might face it's first cancellation. But on Friday, February 15, 2008, the weather dawned clear and calm.

Four boats from Pleasant Harbor Yacht Club cast off for a weekend cruise to Alderbrook. The cruise was sponsored by Dale and Jan on Sea for Two. Also taking part were Greg and Tina on Heart’s Desire, Eric and Ginny on Gineric
and new yacht club member Don Avery on Dream Catcher. The sky was overcast, but the water was like glass all the way down.

After getting all of the boats tied up and registered, everyone gathered on Dale and Jan’s boat for drinks and munchies, followed by dinner featuring lasagna, salad, bread and wine. After chocolate cupcakes for dessert, all departed to their own boats for a nice, long sleep.

Saturday was spent doing whatever you wanted; some took advantage of the indoor pool and spa, others took walks and some took naps. Mid-morning, Mick and Kathy arrived on Caritas. Dinner and drinks that night was aboard Greg and Tina’s boat, and featured soup, grilled scallops and chipotle tenderloin with Mexican rice. Of course, no one went hungry!

Sunday morning arrived with thick fog and most waited to depart. Gineric cast off in into a thick fog while the rest waited.
Suddenly, it cleared and despite a little wind and wave for part of the return, it was a great cruise back and we all enjoyed seeing the sun again! Even though we didn’t have any snowflakes, this cruise was a lot of fun and just a little taste of what is to come as the cruising season approaches.

Jan Johnson waves a successful end to a wonderful 2008 Snowflake Cruise. Alder and Brook, the Alderbrook Resort's newest mascots hope to see us next year!

2008 Chili Cook-off

PLEASANT HARBOR YACHT CLUB
3RD ANNUAL
CHILI COOK OFF
January 26, 2008

Hosted by last year’s winners, Dick and Sheila Moore, the annual Chili Cook Off was once more a fun event with about 25 attendees.
There was a pre-event of home brew (wine and beer) tasting at the pool shelter provided by Greg Tyler and Dick Moore. The weather was cool but dry and the propane heaters did a good job of keeping us warm (the brew helped too).

We had 5 entries plus a pot of last year’s winner to taste and they were all terrific. As promised no expense was spared to secure "Celebrity Judges" and Dick Moore was very grateful to have the current Commodore of Port Ludlow Y C Kevin Ryan and his lovely wife Susan as well as the Vice Commodore David Aho and his lovely wife Linda.
Everyone waited patiently while the judges tasted the entries and cast their votes. The "Cook Off" and potluck were great as usual with lots to eat.
This year’s grand champ was Jan and Norm Gustafson with first runner up Cindy and Jon Adkins. Thanks to all who entered and attended as well as the staff of the Marina Deli and hope to see you all next year.
Check out the trophy "POT" on the shelf by the Yacht Club bulletin board in the marina dining area.
