2007 PHYC Nog Party and Food/Toy drive

The 2007 Boat Decorating, Nog Party and Toy/Food Drive was a huge success thanks to everyone who contributed and participated. Approximately 488 pounds of food and toys and $185 in cash and checks were collected for the Brinnon Food Bank! Dick and Sheila Moore provided the Christmas tree which continues to have a few new ornaments added each year. The folks at the Marina helped set up the restaurant area and clean up the pool area in preparation for our event. The weather looked iffy and the highway was closed but suddenly the highway opened and at 3 pm the wind and rain ceased. We caught a lucky break!

It actually warmed enough that some of our members were seen wearing shorts at the outdoor nog and snack function at the pool! Now that is optimism!

For those who were still cold, Wolfman's experimental nog had enough 'extra' to keep us all warm. There were also windbreaks and several propane heaters to keep everyone comfortable.

There was also mulled wine, other nogs and a variety of snacks (seen here with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Diane from the Brinnon Food Bank joined our festivities and was impressed with the support provided by the PHYC.

After the nog party at the pool, everyone adjourned to the marina store where there were a lot of great food offerings and good company.

After dark, the beautifully lighted boats were reflected in the water and added to the festive time.

One last note, this was Kim Parson's ( seen seated center) last nog party for a while. He is headed cross-country in his RV on new adventures. Kim has been at Pleasant Harbor for many years and his pictures of the marina hang in the restaurant. He has also been the host at the Pleasant Harbor Campground Resort for the past couple of summers. We wish Kim well on his adventures and hope he joins us for a few parties when he is in town.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. 'And to all a good night!'

2007 Red, White and Blue Party

Reported by Greg Tyler - Red, White and Blue Event Coordinator:

This was a grand time with the most cooperative weather we have seen since this celebration began several years ago. We had a great pre-function at the pool shelter with a nice hot propane heater and a sincere toast to all the men and women in uniform, past present, and future. We then adjourned and reconvened in the marina store for a pleasant potluck meal comprised of a wide range of delicious contributions from the group! We had some mouthwatering desserts and gave again our support to the Americans who are serving their country. Following dinner and dessert some of us returned to the pool shelter for several hours of warmth and partying while others remained inside while doing the same!

There were some new marina moorage customers and new PHYC members as well - WELCOME TO THIS COOL GROUP!If you were not able to attend this event, it was GREAT!

We also had much conversation about events in the months yet to come:

The Annual Boat Decorating, Holiday Nog, Snack, Meal Potluck on December 15th: This is also the annual toy and food drive for The Brinnon Food Bank! I learned that they provide support for over 90 area families. Like I said Saturday night, I anticipated being surprised at the level of need - and I was! They are also an official IRS recognized 501-3C Not for Profit group with all the necessary papers. Please add this event to your calendar and plan to attend! I am looking forward to seeing a wide range of Nog and holiday recipies to be sampled... Dick and Sheila have volunteered to provide the Christmas tree and I will get with them as this event gets closer to help put it up. THANK YOU DICK and SHEILA!

The annual Chili Cook Off in January: Dick is our coordinator for that and the plan will be sent out to everyone as soon as it is finished! THANK YOU DICK!In February we have the annual SnowFlake Cruise! Dale and Jan have volunteered to coordinate that event, and I also had several others approach me with the same offer! So, we may have a group effort guiding us on that event which is very cool! THANK YOU DALE AND JAN AND ALL THE OTHER VOLUNTEERS!

The annual Spring Fling Potluck in March: We were thinking about coordinating that, but think there might be a member or 2 who would like to do it instead of us. Let me know and I will help you get started - it is easy!! So, check your calendars and make some plans! Besides, we all need to check on our boats every few weeks and this is a good way to do that and check on all our boating friends at the same time!
